THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION(Education 4.0 is changing the world)
Industry 4.0 is changing the world, and technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are impacting key industries, and even jobs. It is similar to the replacement of manual jobs with machine-processed tasks happening as a revolution in the 21st Century. This implies that the industrial revolution 4.0 will not only affect to industries that will therefore change the way jobs and education are viewed. This will lead to the development of education in the 4.0 era.
So it can be said that the fourth industrial revolution will affect the role today’s students will be prepared for. This will require educational institutions to create a workforce to work in this age of technological transformation. Furthermore, it will also require the existing workforce to upgrade their skills and knowledge to match the new job roles. For this, a revolution in education is essential to enable people all over the world to exploit the opportunities created by the advent of these technologies.
This transformation of the education industry will make it more personalized, peer-to-peer and an ongoing process. For change, we must rethink educational models and focus on areas that need rethinking. In today’s new world of rapidly changing technology and information overload, students need to be trained, not taught. Information needs to be accessible and students need to learn how to find it instead of teachers providing them in a rigid structure.
We now understand that every student is not the same, does not have the same starting point, can learn and acquire different areas of focus and needs guidance to develop skills instead of teaching a set of predefined data points. Education 4.0 needs to be aligned with Industry 4.0 and prepare students for the next industrial revolution that will happen in their lifetime
Education 4.0 will enable learning anywhere, anytime as e-learning tools and applications will provide opportunities for distance learning, self-study. The role of the classroom will change in that theoretical knowledge will be transmitted outside the classroom while practical or experiential knowledge will be transmitted directly.
Education 4.0 will also allow learning to be personalized to students according to their abilities. This means that above average students will be challenged with difficult tasks compared to below average students. This implies that there will be individual learning processes for each student. It will certainly have a positive impact as it will allow students to learn at their own pace. This will lead to a better understanding of the concepts and better overall results. It will also help teachers identify each student’s strengths and weaknesses and guide them accordingly.
Selection of educational tools
Part of Education 4.0 will be the technology/device used by the students to get an education. Although each subject has its own set of knowledge and information that students can grasp, the path to achieving this knowledge can be different. This means that the students will be able to choose the tools and techniques through which they wish to acquire this knowledge. Techniques like blended learning, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and flipping classes are a few examples of this.
The freelance economy is on the rise and will continue to do so. This means that today’s students will need to adapt to a project-based learning and working style. They will need to hone their skills and learn how to apply and mold them to the situation. Therefore, students should be familiar with project-based learning during their secondary education. This part of Education 4.0 will teach them organizational skills, time management skills and collaboration skills, which they can use further in their academic and employment careers.
